Healthy Soil For a Healthy Environment

From the Beginning

Mauby All Natural was started by Brian Debasitis, with help from his wife Rachel, as Sustainable Soil in a backyard in Woodstock, Vermont. Our goal is to provide sensible solutions for healthy lawns, gardens and playing fields without the use of herbicides, fungicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Scientific studies have shown how many problems are caused by lawn and garden chemicals. Restoring and properly feeding soil biology produces healthier plants and a healthier environment. We are committed to providing solutions to homeowners, property managers, municipal agencies and growers. Our products are safe for people and animals, and do not run off into the water supply.

What is Mauby?

The question comes up all the time. What is Mauby? Not Mauby the company, but Mauby the stuff. The word comes from the Caribbean. A tree, called Mauby, grows on a number of the islands, and local residents have been making an extract from the bark, also called Mauby, for as long as anyone can remember. The extract is mixed with water to make a drink. If you have a Caribbean market anywhere nearby, you will be able to buy Mauby by the bottle. It has a wonderful smell, but is the single most bitter substance I have ever consumed. But that's not where the name for Mauby the company comes from.

As for the company, I shared my life with a small, female Cocker Spaniel named Mauby. She basically adopted me and from the time we met, till the moment she died, she was a constant companion. To the point when I pushed back on my office chair, I had to make sure I didn't run her over because she was on the floor behind me sleeping. She was very much in my mind when I chose the name for my company.
